Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

Congestive Heart Failure occurs when the heart is unable to pump effectively and efficiently, thus preventing sufficient blood flow to all parts of the body. This condition carries symptoms such as:

  • Shortness of breath, especially while lying down
  • Swelling (known as edema) caused by a build up of fluid
  • An inability to perform routine tasks
  • Constant fatigue

Our treatment for this condition typically includes prescribing Entresto, which is a medication that can significantly prevent mortality. Other medications, like beta blockers and/or ACE inhibitors, are also effective treatments. Exercising moderately and adopting a low sodium diet are lifestyle changes that can help reduce the risk of CHF. In some instances, a procedure to correct the valve or insert a pacemaker may be recommended.
