Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) Placement

Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) Placement

This procedure is used to insert an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, which monitors the heart’s electrical signals and administers a small shock if the heart begins to falter in sending these signals. For patients who have suffered from severe heart failure or may be at risk of suffering from sudden cardiac arrest or death, this device may be combined with a pacemaker.

This device is about the size of a small stopwatch and may also be used for patients who have ventricular arrhythmia, hereditary heart conditions, ventricular fibrillation, or ventricular tachycardia.
